Mission

Texas Winds Musical Outreach engages, comforts, and celebrates the spirits of isolated seniors, hospital patients, veterans, and children in North Texas through live, professional musical performances.

Our Vision

Music contributes to a society:

    • Where seniors are vibrant and engaged because they are valued and respected by a community involved in their lives.
    • Where hospital patients, veterans, and their families are comforted and uplifted during difficult and challenging times.
    • Where children are confident and creative and are ready to embrace a future of unlimited possibilities.

History

In 1985 Catherine Barr and members of her woodwind quintet discovered a new audience in a Dallas nursing home. The musicians’ desire to perform matched the residents’ need for human interaction. Music made a difference in the lives of players and listeners alike, nurturing their spirits and awakening the potential for sharing love and compassion in a unique setting.

Since that time, Texas Winds has expanded its outreach to all Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton County nursing homes, as well as hospitals and Head Start Centers. Texas Winds gave 11 concerts in its first year.
